Fly-fishing female veterans

IN-THE-NEWS

We’ve heard of plenty of great programs to get our veterans outdoors to help them cope with trauma (such as Project Healing Waters and Hunters Helping Soldiers). We came across an article in the San Francisco Gate a while back about an event  specifically for female veterans.

The Veterans First Fly Fishing Federation isn’t only for women, but it comes as no surprise that we love anything that encourages women to try a new outdoor hobby – and find the calming force of the outdoors.

  • You look like you’re going to pop!
  • I’ve lost my [activity] buddy!

Bailee Butler and her daddy, Brandon, proudly pose for a photo with her first turkey.

A Midwesterner by birth, my only goal upon college graduation was moving to Montana to become a mountain man. I moved to Montana, but instead of being swept downriver by a rushing current, I was swept off my feet by a woman. We married and had two daughters before I ever arrowed an elk.

Football, fishing and hunting, these are the things I understand. I was supposed to have sons...
