We all gear up for the fall for various reasons. May it be the beautiful fall colors, may it be sitting in a tree stand, or stalking and bugling that BIG massive bull elk. However, there is one feathered friend that many can’t WAIT for Fall/Winter season for… duck!

Wait no longer, wings are locked and set and the birds are ready to land in your decoy spread! We can’t forget our beautiful retrieving pups diving in after that fallen bird!!!!

Unlike sitting in a stand alone..or belly crawling in on a big game stalk…duck hunting is a hunt that is better done and more fun with a friend by your side. Whether it be our furry friends or our favorite child, sister, brother, cousin, Mom, Dad, or spouse (hopefully you only have one of those….spouses that is)!!!

TICK-TOCK-TICK-TOCK….Tick season!

Tips-and-Tricks

By Rachel Voss

If this was only ONE  clock we could stop the hand of time on! Snakes, spiders, ants…I can do… TICKS… holy heeeee-beee-jeee-beees!

Icebreaker-Ika-Long-Sleeve-Half-Zip-Max-1-470x651Now, the benefits of playing in our beautiful great outdoors BY FAR outweigh the risks that are associated with tick bites. Tick Habitat: It’s important to know where these lil’ dudes love to hang out. These tiny  travelers vary in size and often can be nearly impossible to see. SO, rather than looking for them, be able to recognize some of the prime tick habitat in your local areas. Ticks LOVE tall grass and wooded areas...

STINKY DITCH WEED? Why Not?

It’s a bird, it’s a plane….NOPE it’s a Prois Girl killin’ time until spring turkey and the mighty mushroom season!!! Most of us in the outdoors look forward to the months of May and June not just for spring turkey, but for Morel mushroom season.

Me, myself, and I? I look forward to asparagus hunting! The day I see that first massive- fatty piece of what I call “Stinky-Pee Ditch Weed” AKA Wild Asparagus. I’m like a goofy kid on Christmas morning!! It helps pass time until shrooms and gobblers, and it’s pretty fun! I’d like to say I am just so dang smart that I knew our orchard not only fulfilled our bellies with apples, cherries, peaches AND wild asparagus….but not so much!!

Taking my dogs for their daily run one spring day la...

What is it that hooks us?

Guest Post

What is it that hooks us? When was your defining moment that you realized you loved to hunt and it was a part of you?

For many people it’s the early childhood experiences with a parent, cousin or grandpa. But what about the person that doesn’t start early? How do they begin? Many people don’t have the opportunity early in life because of certain factors such as not living in a rural area, lack of mentors etc. I wasn’t an early bloomer; I grew up around hunting, but preferred horses. I found hunting intimidating and for men…that was until my college roommate Amanda said let’s go hog hunting (northern CA). So we went and I was hooked!
