duck breastHunting is a way of life in much of rural Georgia – something that is passed down from generation to generation.  Some of my earliest memories are being in the woods deer hunting with my daddy, and whether we were hunting deer or dove, he always taught my brother and me to appreciate the animals that we harvested, and to eat what you kill.  While I don’t hunt as often as I did when I was a child, my fiancé is quite the avid sportsman, and loves to bring home things for me to cook.

Recipe: Beer-Battered Fish Tacos with Cajun Slaw

Summertime for me means tacos and, in particular, fish tacos.  In the past, we have only grilled the fish but now I’ve discovered how to beer-batter and I’m not sure we’ll ever go back to grilling.  After testing with a few added taco components, we’ve settled on serving the battered-fish with a Cajun Slaw. Follow these easy directions for delicious…  And don’t forget to get fishing on the Bay.

For the beer-battered fish…

In medium size bowl, whisk together 1 1⁄2 tbsp. salt, 1 1⁄2 cups flour, cornstarch, beer, and egg to make a batter.

Pour Canola oil into a 5-qt. Dutch oven to a depth of 2′; heat until a thermometer reads 375˚. Sprinkle fish with chili powder and salt. Put remaining flour on a plate. Dredge fish in flour; shake off excess.

How to row a boat like a pro

Guest Post

By Mia Sheppard

Kids are like running, babbling brooks that never stop moving, the continual trickle of curiosity, flows.

From crawling to walking, to listening to her pronounce her first word, “mama” to completing a full sentence a couple years later,  “why can’t a fish breath out of water?” Reminds me of my own curiosity as a child.

My mom was single most of my childhood, she worked hard to give us those simple pleasures such as a piece of candy or a new pair of shoes or playing hop scotch with us after work.  She also made sure weekends where dedicated to spending time outdoors, forgetting about the dishes that needed to be done or the bills that needed paid.

At that time, youth and ignorance was bliss...

Tips and Tricks: Blinds and Tree Stands

Hunting Unseen – The Benefits of Hunting Blinds and Tree Stands:

Typically, tree stands and hunting blinds are desirable for archery or crossbow hunting. However, they have also become increasingly popular when hunting with a rifle. Let’s assume you have done your pre-season scouting and already picked out a good location of your game’s traffic. Perhaps near a watering hole, or a well-worn game trail. Perhaps you want a good clearing near a tree line. Think of the maximum distance you are capable of shooting. Since you will require a good vantage point, the following factors should all be considered when picking out a tree stand or hunting blind.
