The Ultimate Quest… Waders

Product-Review

 waders

For the past six years, I have been on the hunt (quite literally!) for versatile waders that actually fit.  Waders that keep me dry no matter if I’m setting up decoys or casting a fly line.  After literally buying and returning over a dozen pairs – I’d frankly given up.  The men’s waders were too big – the boot size wonky and the length went clear over my head!  And kid’s waders weren’t much better.  Although the length and boot size was improved, the waders were too wide and the extra fabric buckled uncomfortably several times over.  But then I met Tammy of BassPro at SHOT Show and she told me about a new line of hunting apparel that is made just for women… SHE Outdoor Ladies Hunting Clothing. SHE Outdoor makes waders specifically designed for women so of course I was intrigued!

Let’s get fishing!

IN-THE-NEWS

ladies

This past Sunday, we caught a story about women learning to fish in Florida and had to share it.  Check out the news story here!

The gist?  Betty Bauman of “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing” is organizing seminars about fishing and getting women out on the water with their fishing poles.  And not just one or two women!  In the last 20 year, Betty has helped more than 6,000 women learn to fish through her program.  If you’re in Florida, you have to check Betty out.  Find more information about “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing” here. And congratulations Betty; you inspire us!

Beauty and the fish

Guest Post

Beauty and the fishBy Kassondra Hendricks

My little sister marches through the door into the garage, she wears my father’s black work bibs and they are large on her. The legs billow out at her hips and dangle over her boots so that they are unseen. She looks ridiculous, but then again, who looks beautiful when they ice fish? We trudge to the truck, giggling with amusement about our appearance. The drive to the lake is long and quiet. My father, sister and I squished into the front of the pickup as our gear had overtaken both the bed and back seat of the truck. Music plays, the windows fog up with our breath, and I watch the fields of snow pass by, day dreaming about tip-up flags, monster pike and crappie. Butterflies erupt in my stomach with excitement...

On Daughters… and Fishing

Guest Post

By Jodi Stemler

It was a blustery day at the Jersey shore. Tomorrow a nor’easter would blow in, but today the surf was just annoyed, not the angry tempest it would be by morning. Though both my sister and I live in Colorado now, every year we head back to this beach for our annual family vacation. The tradition for me hit a milestone of 40 years this year – just like I did.

After many summers at this beach, the pre-storm blow meant one thing to my sister and I – stripers. Years of surf fishing with our dad during these summer trips told us that bass seem to particularly like to eat when the tide is high and the surf is rough...

An Interview with Flyvines’ Erin Gabrian Kane

FlyVinesOpt2

Today we’re sitting down with Erin Gabrian Kane, owner and creator of Flyvines and learning more about her and her business.  Flyvines recycles old fishing line to create braided lanyards, bracelets, coasters, dog leashes and sunglass retainers.  We’re excited to host this smart and savvy businesswoman and hope you enjoy the interview.

Camo is the New Black: How did Flyvines start?

Erin Gabrian Kane: Flyvines started about six years ago, my business partner is an Outfitter, and was looking for a simple lanyard for his clients to use on the Missouri. After picking up some fly line and braiding it, the Flyvines lanyard was created. For the first year, it was developing the bracelets/lanyard/sunglass retainers and giving samples to the shops and guides to see their feedback.
