If you’ve been following Modern Hunters on Facebook or Twitter, you are likely aware that I punched my first deer tag on Saturday during the last weekend of rifle season. To any hunter, that sentence right there makes perfect sense. But relaying the same news to some of my non-hunter friends produced some looks of confusion and a wave of curious question-asking. What is a tag? How many do you get? What do you mean by rifle season? Why are there so many regulations? It’s easy to forget just how much jargon there is in the hunting community...

As a Florida girl I was raised on the water. My dad had my brother, sister and I on the boat every weekend. We would tube, knee board, and swim. I remember always being fearful of alligator. Every time my brother was behind the boat on his knee board- always checking behind to make sure he did not fall or that my dad didn’t steer the boat too close to the swampy areas...

We’ve talked about Wild before because it made us want to grab our backpack and go for a hike. The movie adaptation starring Reese Witherspoon opens in theaters today and we can’t wait to see if it stands up to our expectations.
