If you would’ve told my nine-year old self that I would be toting around a pink camo shotgun in the future I wouldn’t have believed you. Pink has always been a ghastly color in my mind. And I wasn’t the girl that played with Barbie dolls. I was the girl that tramped barefoot around the horse barn chasing chickens, stalking deer in fields with mud smeared on my face, climbing trees, showing off burns on my legs from riding dirt bikes, smiling with satisfaction at the roughness of my calloused hands. Sportsmen and women are conservationists first

Conservation

 duck stamp

Recently National Geographic featured a video about how hunters and anglers have made a difference in North Dakota, South Carolina, Washington state and the western U.S.   Although this video is awesome it only showcases a small part of what sportsmen and women have done for wildlife habitat. My feet are reaching that freezing point that would soon drive me from my hiding place, but a dark cloud lifts off the river as a few hundred Canada geese leave their night’s resting place.

As their ruckus reaches us, our adrenaline-levels spike and my numb feet are eitherwarmed or forgotten. Our decoy spread forms an open-ended triangle and we are stationed in the V’s crook. Four geese break from the flock and head for the open ground we left in the spread directly before our blinds.

When the birds come in range, someone calls out, “Take ‘em!” and we pop up from our prone positions, shotguns singing...

Shopping List for Fall Hunting

Tips-and-Tricks

Hunters who are getting ready to go outdoors this fall should perform some extensive preparations far ahead of time. You never know what is going to transpire out in the wilderness. You might get stung by a bee, you could twist an ankle or you might even get lost. Let’s take a look the typical shopping list for a fall hunter.

Clothing

When you’re at the sporting goods store, be sure to purchase some high visibility clothing. This will ensure that you are clearly distinguished from other hunters, animals and anything else that moves. The last thing that you want is for your hunting partner to mistake your movement for that of a deer or other animal and shoot you. Pick out the brightest clothing you can find so that there is no questioning your identity...
