The Love of a Pup Heals Old Wound

Guest Post

Brandon Butler is back on CITNB to share an update after unexpectedly losing his hunting dog, Junior.

Willie, now 11-months old, retrieved four ducks on his first hunt, while wearing Junior’s vest.

Losing Junior tore a hole in my heart. He was a four-year old black lab in the prime of his life, and he was a duck hunting machine. We were ready for the epic waterfowl flight of 2014, but that dream died with him back in September.

It would be a black lab male.  Yet, I knew no matter how hard I tried to value this next dog on his own merit, he’d suffer the fate of following in the footsteps of a giant.

My husband, our friend and I won a goose hunt at a TRCP dinner two years ago. We missed the first season because of scheduling conflicts so I was determined to  hunt this season...

We’ve often been referred to as “the Sisters McGregor”. We work in the same professional field, share the same friends and are both avid outdoorswomen. Although we’re 10 years apart, we both have distinct memories of fishing off our grandparents dock in Charleston, camping with our parents and siblings in KY and WI, or hiking with friends across the southeast.

We’re also pretty inseparable – living together off and on for over 10 years –or at least we were until Christie, the older/wiser one, decided to up...
