Tips-and-Tricks
Top three basics for the beginner turkey hunter
By Rachel Voss

1) Choosing the PROPER GUN

Finding the right gun for yourself is much like picking out your favorite pair of undies!! there are so many to choose from! There’s are many price, caliber, action and color options to consider. Your biggest priority should be the fit and comfort (again, much like your favorite pair of undies!) The best and most knowledgable place to look for a gun is a local gun shop or a customer-service oriented retailer. Feel the gun, hold it, caress it… do what you must… but put that sucker up to your shoulder ad make sure you’ve found the proper fit!!

2) Must have CAMO
Camo-camo-camo! Your entire gorgeous body needs to be covered in camo because these wilyunnamed birds have serious eye sight! Not only is it importa...

I’m currently a 27 year old female living in upstate New York. I’d like to once again declare that I live in upstate New York – the city is about 4 hours South of my area. I am surrounded by views of scenic mountains, rolling hills and colorful trees so picturesque that the sight would rob your lungs of air and heart of a beat. Too many people, including my younger self, believe New York to be swallowed by the city – not understanding the true beauty the state really has to offer. Now, if the politics were as pure, I’d certainly live in a paradise. But, it’s my home now, and you have to take the bad with the good.

Delaware is my first home, and also the “first state” (for those of you who thought you knew what Delaware was but wasn’t sure)...

STINKY DITCH WEED? Why Not?

It’s a bird, it’s a plane….NOPE it’s a Prois Girl killin’ time until spring turkey and the mighty mushroom season!!! Most of us in the outdoors look forward to the months of May and June not just for spring turkey, but for Morel mushroom season.

I’m like a goofy kid on Christmas morning!! It helps pass time until shrooms and gobblers, and it’s pretty fun! I’d like to say I am just so dang smart that I knew our orchard not only fulfilled our bellies with apples, cherries, peaches AND wild asparagus….but not so much!!

Taking my dogs for their daily run one spring day la...

Celebrating President’s Day with the First Lady of Hunting

Guest Post

Nebrask Turkey 050

To celebrate President’s Day we’re talking to a legend in the sportsmen and women community, Brenda Valentine aka the First Lady of Hunting ®.

Brenda is often credited with starting the current women’s hunting movement and directly responsible for recruiting more women into hunting than anyone in modern history. Brenda grew up in a family where wild game was the primary table fare and good hunting/shooting skills were learned at an early age. The lessons of woodsmanship, animal behavior, and handling a firearm that once provided meat for the table were also building a firm foundation for Brenda to become a respected leader and a role model in today’s world of hunting and conservation.
